[new york] George Vernadakis joins Advertising Age Nov. 1 as executive editor. He will have responsibility for the day-to-day editorial operations of Advertising Age, and will report to Editor Scott Donaton.

Mr. Vernadakis, 34, was most recently editor in chief of Ziff-Davis' Interactive Week, which he joined at its launch in 1994 as managing editor. Prior to that, he served as managing editor of Spy, and before that he spent three years as assistant managing editor of Variety.

"George has a decade of experience managing the editorial operations of news-driven business publications similar to Ad Age," Mr. Donaton said. "His hiring rounds out a hard-charging team of talented, experienced journalists that packs a tremendous punch."

Advertising Age also announced the addition of a new reporter in its Chicago bureau. Amanda Beeler will cover direct marketing and will serve as editorial coordinator of the every-other-weekly Direct & Database page. In addition, she will cover radio and out-of-home media.

Ms. Beeler, 30, joined Ad Age after a year as an editorial resident at the Chicago Tribune. Before that she was a staff writer for three years at the Times
