RICHMOND'S ADMAKERS were making award-winning ads when the kids in Minneapolis were still out chasing hockey pucks." So writes The Martin Agency's Mike Hughes, chairman of the first Richmond Show, in his introduction to the Show's annual, published this spring by the Richmond Ad Club.

Last spring, the One Club mounted an unusual exhibition at its headquarters in New York: a retrospective look at two decades of the best advertising from Richmond, Va. According to Mary Warlick, the club's executive director, it was only the second time the club had ever focused on the creative work from a single city (the first being an exhibit of work from San Francisco that appeared several years ago). What sparked the event, in part, was the Richmond Ad Club's publication of its first awards annual, "The Best of Richmond," which included a fond look back at all the work pictured here (and more) along with the current winners.
