(Aug. 13, 2001) -- Visa has picked AKQA, San Francisco, as its interactive agency following a review.

Finalists included Modem Media, San Francisco, a team of Seneca Investments-backed Organic, San Francisco, and Omnicom Group's BBDO Worldwide, New York.

AKQA, which is backed by Accenture and venture capital firm Francisco Partners, had been tipped to win the business by people close to the review in recent weeks, even though BBDO is the long-time traditional agency for the San Francisco-based financial services company.

The review was called after one of the account's two incumbents, Chicago-based MarchFirst, declared bankruptcy last spring. The other incumbent was BBDO's interactive unit, @tmosphere, New York.
