Web users give high ratings to search engine sites: NPD study

Published on .

Marketing information provider NPD Group found 82% of visitors find the information they are looking for at search engines most or all of the time, an improvement from 77% in fall 1999. Overall, opinion scores are up, with 39% of search engine site users rating their favorite site as "excellent," up from 33% last fall. Even after searches fail, 77% of visitors said they use the same search site for a different search instead of trying a different site. Many users say they think every search engine will provide the same information, so they stick with the search sites they know. Top search engines according to the NPD survey are: Yahoo!, AltaVista Co., America Online's Netscape Communications' search services, [email protected]'s Excite search, Ask Jeeves and Lycos.
