WPP buys stake in medical shop

WPP Group, London, said it acquired a minority stake in privately held Medical Broadcasting Co., Philadelphia, which specializes in healthcare marketing on the Web. The deal will create an alliance between MBC and WPP's Parsippany, N.J.-based CommonHealth, well-known for its work on heavily promoted Claritin from Schering-Plough Corp. The deal shows how important healthcare marketing on the Web is becoming and allows CommonHealth to bolster its offerings in that area. MBC, in turn, gets access to Com-monHealth's blue-chip client base that also includes companies such as Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and SmithKline Beecham.
