Web directory Yahoo today unveils a new interface that includes a news feature from Reuters NewMedia as well as advertising, a first-ever for the grassroots guide.

Yahoo's five flagship sponsors will pay $20,000 per month during a three-month trial for rotating banner signage on the online guide's most popular pages, including What's New, What's Cool and What's Popular. Advertisers include MasterCard International, MCI Communications Corp., Internet Shopping Network, NECX (an online computer store) and Worlds Inc., an online publisher of 3-D virtual environments.

Internet Profiles Corp. will provide its I/AUDIT service to help advertisers measure traffic. Interactive Marketing Inc., Hermosa Beach, Calif., handles sales and marketing efforts for the Mountain View, Calif.-based Yahoo Corp.M
