This is the first time an ad agency has received such an honor from a New York mayor, according to the agency. The recognition follows BBDO's virtual sweep of the yearend recognitions given to ad agencies, including Advertising Age's U.S. Agency of the Year honor.

"For more than a century, BBDO has worked diligently to keep our city economically and culturally dynamic," wrote Mayor Bloomberg in the proclamation. "New York City joins the advertising industry in honoring BBDO as agency of the year."

Last year, BBDO turned in a stellar new-business performance, pulling in accounts from eBay, E-Trade, Mitsubishi, Motorola, Lowe's and Schering-Plough's Levitra. It also shared in its parent company's win of Bank of America's marketing account.
