P&G's Battle of the Brands

Fresh off a company field trip to the International Advertising Festival in Cannes, AdAge.com reports that Procter & Gamble is holding an internal competition to determine which P&G brand will be awarded a truly rare prize: the company's first ever Super Bowl commercial. The company sorted through storyboards for 25 brands before picking eight finalists to compete for a slot in the big game. Commercials in the running include work for Charmin and Prilosec OTC from Publicis/New York; efforts for Crest Night Effects, Crest Whitestrips and Old Spice from Saatchi & Saatchi/New York; spots for Pringles and Mr. Clean from Grey/New York; and a Swiffer pitch from the Kaplan Thaler Group. All eight finalists will be produced, with the lucky winner going on to the Super Bowl on Jan. 26. And speaking of Darwinian battles for supremacy and bragging rights The Battle of the Ad-Bands is tomorrow night at CBGB's.
