Will Blair to Head Sponsorships and Ad Sales at Turner Sports

Turner Sports Ad Sales has announced Will Blair as the new senior VP-sponsorships and sales. Previously VP-brand activation and media partnerships for Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, Mr. Blair will now oversee custom branded promotional opportunities for advertising clients around the NBA, Nascar, MLB, professional golf and the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament. Mr. Blair launched his marketing career over 15 years ago at Turner Broadcasting in Atlanta. He was also group account director at Momentum Worldwide, and VP-divisional partnerships within Time Warner Global Media Group. Additionally, Mr. Blair spent time at Interpublic/McCann WorldGroup as a senior VP.

In other Turner news, Ken Shapiro and Larry Gelfand have been named senior VPs of Turner/SI Digital ad sales. Mr. Shapiro will lead New York and Los Angeles-based teams, while Mr. Gelfand will oversee teams in New York, Atlanta, Detroit and Chicago. Mr. Gelfand comes to Turner from the National Hockey League, where he was senior VP-ad sales and business development. His background includes a range of digital and publisher experience, such as Viacom, ESPN, AOL and The New York Times. Prior to being named senior VP, Mr. Shapiro was VP-ad sales for Turner/SI Digital, leading national sales for NBA Digital for the past eighteen months. He began his career in 1995 as a sales assistant with Turner Broadcasting's TBS and TNT, then transitioned to CNN, and has held ascending positions throughout the company in nearly every division.

Beth Fetzer has been named senior VP-director of integrated planning at ArnoldNYC. Most recently, Ms. Fetzer was senior VP-director of account planning at DraftFCB, New York. While there, she was a part of the Effie-award-winning Gerber campaign, and worked with brands such as Qwest, Kraft Foods, Office of National Drug Control Policy and Eli Lilly (Cymbalta). Prior to DraftFCB, Ms. Fetzer held the position of associate planning director at AKQA, San Francisco, where she handled strategy for Palm Computing and helped win the new online business for Visa.

BBDO/Proximity Canada has appointed Kevin Pfuhl to senior VP-managing director. Mr. Pfuhl's experience includes the branding integration of BMO retail and wealth management; advisor channel marketing for TD Asset Management; strategic positioning development for National Bank Financial Markets; the launch of a range of products from Canadian Tire Financial Services; and the branding and launch of Caribbean-based insurance leader Sagicor Financial Group. Previously, Mr. Pfuhl was managing partner-client development and strategy with GJP Advertising and Design (now Blammo Worldwide) for over 11 years. Under his leadership, GJP won numerous awards including Cassies, Cannes Lions, DMAs, CMAs, MIXX, BUZZ, and Caples awards recognizing integrated advertising.

Annie Howell has been named senior VP-communications and media relations for Crown Media Holdings, Inc., the owner and operator of Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel. Prior to joining Hallmark Channels, Ms. Howell served as senior VP-communications and public affairs at Discovery Communications. Most recently, she was part of the team that launched Planet Green and TreeHugger.com, Discovery's global cross-platform initiative and channel devoted to the environment. Before that, she was senior VP in Discovery's U.S. Networks division. Mr. . Howell joined Discovery in 1999 and helped launch Discovery Health Channel. Previously she was a VP at the Washington-based PR firm Powell Tate and served in account executive positions with Ogilvy & Mather Public Affairs.

Empower MediaMarketing has promoted James W. Price II from president to president and CEO. An 11-year veteran of Empower, Mr. Price created Empower's Innovation Group in 2004 to expand the company's offering. The agency now offers digital strategy, digital media, word-of-mouth marketing and social media, among other media channels. Mr. Price previously held roles with ABC Radio, Beyond Interactive and the Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign.

Meredith Corporation has appointed Mark Peterson VP-newsstand for the Meredith National Media Group. Mr. Peterson was most recently exec VP-managing director, DJG Marketing, and president, ProCirc Retail Solutions Group. He was responsible for helping manage the newsstand operations of nearly 20 media companies, including titles such as ESPN The Magazine, Disney and PC World. Prior to joining DJG, he was partner and chief operating officer for Vanguard Media, an African-American media and marketing company that publishes Savoy, among other titles. His background also includes senior level positions with Primedia, Murdoch Magazines and Comag Marketing.
