What's going on at Glamour? New Conde Nast Publications CEO Chuck Townsend, himself a former publisher of the company's crown jewel, dumped Glamour's Suzanne Grimes and replaced her with comer Bill Wackerman from Fairchild. What is Editor Cindi Leive saying about all this? Over lunch at Lever House she said the appropriate things about missing Suzanne while enthusiastically welcoming Bill, but more significant are the things she's doing. Newsstand is booming, up an estimated 10% over the first four months (their total circ is 2.3 million). For the first time in 12 years Glamour is running fiction in its June issue. And it's soliciting new fiction from readers and talking with Random House about a possible Glamour book imprint. As of May 1, top photographer Patrick Demarchelier will be shooting "celebrity covers" for Glamour instead of Hearst. As for Cindi, who once spent three weeks trekking in Nepal, she's coping these days with an active baby, and nicely, too.

Over at Conde Nast Traveler, Lisa Hughes reports this may be the magazine's best first half in its 17-year history. The May ("Hot List") issue is 22.7% ahead, Y-T-D, up 15% in ads. They partied late last month at the Hotel Gansevoort to celebrate.
