Richard Pinkham, a retired vice chairman of Ted Bates & Co. and a programming pioneer at NBC, died of cancer two weeks ago in Jupiter, Fla. He was 82. In the early 1950s, Mr. Pinkham helped introduce both the "Today" and "Tonight" shows. In 1957, he moved to Bates, where he held a number of senior media and programming positions before becoming vice chairman in 1976.
