WPP Group's Team Detroit has appointed Betsy Lazar to the position of exec VP-chief media officer. Team Detroit is WPP Group's global agency group servicing Ford Motor Co. Ms. Lazar was most recently at Kellogg Co., where she spent three years as VP-global media. Prior to joining Kellogg, she was executive director-advertising and media operations at General Motors Corp., where she played a key role in driving digital strategy. She also led their CRM practice, implementing a leading global digital search capability. Ms. Lazar began her career on the agency side, including a stint at J. Walter Thompson, where she worked as a media planner. She then served in various supervisory positions on Ford Car and Truck, helping to launch the Taurus and Aerostar.
Dave Freygang has succeeded Terry Snow as CEO of Bonnier Corp, following Mr. Snow's retirement on Jan. 14, 2013. Mr. Snow spent six years as Bonnier CEO, and 28 years as CEO of World Publications, a company that Mr. Snow founded and Bonnier partnered with in 2006. Mr. Freygang recently served as exec VP for Bonnier's Active Interest division and has over 23 years of experience working at Bonnier (and formerly World). Originally hired as chief financial officer of World Publications, Mr. Freygang expanded his responsibilities by overseeing magazine groups in the early '90s. In his prior role in the Active Interest division, Mr. Freygang had responsibility for 33 brands, including Saveur, Yachting and Islands.
Adap.tv has named Timothy R. Morse to the newly created position of chief financial officer. Mr. Morse joins the video-advertising company from Yahoo, where he held the exec VP and chief financial officer positions from June 2009 to October 2012. He also served as the company's interim chief executive officer from September 2011 to January 2012. Prior to Yahoo, Mr. Morse was the CFO of Altera Corp. and GE Plastics, a unit of General Electric. During his 15-year tenure at General Electric, he held a variety of positions at GE Plastics, GE Appliances and GE Capital in North America, Europe and Asia. The addition of Mr. Morse is a part of a much larger team expansion at all levels, as the company grew its staff 200% last year to more than 150 employees in North America, Europe and Australia.
Jared DiPalma has been promoted to chief financial officer for NBCUniversal Entertainment & Digital Networks and Integrated Media (E&DN/IM). In this newly created role, Mr. DiPalma will oversee all financial operations for a portfolio that includes Bravo Media, Oxygen Media, Style, Sprout, Telemundo Media, mun2, and TV One, as well as the native digital properties DailyCandy and Fandango. Most recently, Mr. DiPalma served as the senior VP-finance for E&DN/IM, a role he held since June of 2011. He joined NBCUniversal in 2008 as VP-finance for the company's national ad sales organization, where he was responsible for the financial planning and strategic communication of NBCUniversal's ad sale revenue. Mr. DiPalma led the integration of the Comcast and NBCUniversal cable entertainment sales organizations.
Ari Paparo has been named to the newly created post of senior VP-media products at Bazaarvoice. Mr. Paparo joins the social-software company to leverage last year's acquisition of media-advertising network Longboard Media. He is a six-year veteran of Google and DoubleClick, where he was the director of product management. Immediately prior to joining Bazaarvoice, Mr. Paparo was the senior VP of product management for AppNexus, where he launched the digital advertising industry's first apps marketplace. A contributor to AdAge%u2019s Digital Next blog, Mr. Paparo is known in the online advertising community for his authorship of the VAST (Video Ad Serving Template) specification for online video and his development of an online gross ratings point (GRP) model for Nielsen.
MEC has appointed Joe Kowan as practice lead-digital trading and activation. Prior to joining MEC, Mr. Kowan was VP-business development at ad-tech startup Legolas Media. Before Legolas, he was director-media systems and technology at GroupM's MediaCom, where he established and communicated the overall media-technology vision for the U.S. market.
