Abacus Direct Corp., Westminster, Colo., reported second-quarter net income of $2.3 million, up 28% from the same period a year ago. Revenue hit $13.2 million, up 41%. For the first half, net income climbed 31% to $4.6 million, as revenue rose 41% to $26 million. Abacus recently agreed to be acquired by DoubleClick in a stock transaction valued at $1 billion.

Draft Worldwide, Chicago, acquired Hong Kong-based Strategic Solutions, an advertising, direct marketing and sales promotion agency that will be folded into Draft's office there. Strategic Solutions' clients include The Economist Group, Hong Kong Tourist Association and Charles Schwab & Co. Draft's Hong Kong clients include Bass Hotels & Resorts, Cable & Wireless HKT and Montblanc.

Direct Partners, Santa Monica, Calif., said it's in the process of acquiring a New York direct marketing company and has opened an office in San Francisco. Managing Partner Wes Nichols wouldn't name the company being acquired but said a deluge of start-ups and the upheaval of the Internet have caused a flood of new-business opportunities on both coasts. "There is a dearth of strategic direct marketing agencies in the Bay area," Mr. Nichols said. "It's time to get some people on the ground there." Direct Partners also has a small office in Toronto. The shop recently picked up direct responsibilities for PlanetRX, an online drug site, and TiVo, a Silicon Valley TV technology company.
