In a move to capitalize on hot Internet stock offerings, Walt Disney Co. entered into discussions last week to acquire the rest of Infoseek Corp. Infoseek and Disney already jointly own and operate the Go Network portal, which launched in January. Disney, which purchased 43% of the search engine company last year, would likely package Infoseek with the rest of its Internet units into a public Web spinoff.

In addition, Jake Winebaum, chairman of Disney's Buena Vista Internet Group, has resigned to run an Internet start-up called eCompanies.

Pets.com selects TBWA/Chiat/Day as AOR

Pets.com, an Internet retailer of pet supplies, chose TBWA/Chiat/Day, San Francisco, as the first agency of record for its multimillion-dollar account. Privately held Pets.com is funded by online retailer Amazon.com and venture capital group Hummer Winblad Venture Partners. A campaign is set to launch this summer.

Chicago agency Leapnet has agreed to buy privately held Nine Dots Corp., a Tustin, Calif.-based Web shop. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Last week, Leapnet also named Breaux A.
