Corner Shop Signs Cannes Grand Prix-Winning Director Rouse, MPC's Mengers Joins Passion and More
James Rouse, who has just won the Grand Prix at Cannes for the Harvey Nichols "Sorry, I spent it on myself" campaign, has signed with The Corner Shop for commercial representation. Rouse also picked up a Gold Lion at Cannes for Marmite "Rescue" and three Bronze Lions for his VW Campaign. Rouse made his directorial debut in 2003 with a campaign for Trojan Condoms at the Viral Factory. He was previously represented through Outsider in the U.K. This year also saw the release of his first feature film, "Downhill."
Passion has signed director Jake Mengers to its roster for commercial, gaming and music video representation in the U.K., Europe and the USA. Most recently creative director-advertising at MPC London, Mengers has also worked at Framestore and made his name working on VFX-heavy commercials such as Levi's "Odyssey," Three's "The Pony" and Xbox "Mosquito." He has also directed campaigns for brands such as Fox's Biscuits, Cushelle, Burberry and Lamborghini.
Hudson Edit has added editor Zach DuFresne and the editorial and design duo Gentlemen (comprised of editor Derek Swanson and designer Dave Graw) to its roster. Gentlemen are also added to the roster of Hudson Edit's sister company, Avalon Films, for directorial representation. Both companies are based in Detroit. DuFresne joins Hudson Edit from Territory. Recently, his work on the Corvette Stingray project "Biometric Test Drive" for Chevrolet was awarded with a 2014 Bronze Telly. Graw and Swanson formed Gentlemen in 2013, and recent projects include a music video for the band Bars of Gold.
Click 3X has hired Noella Borie as animation drector. Borie has a long history with Click 3X, originally interning at the company in 2009 after graduating from Parsons The New School for Design, and has since freelanced extensively for Click 3X. She led animation on the independent film "Riot on the Dance Floor" and "Everyday Sunshine," a documentary about the rock band Fishbone. She has also has written, directed and produced her first short film "Faceless Neil in The Face Shop."
MPC has appointed Adina Birnbaum as executive producer of color grading at its New York studio. Birnbaum has worked at agencies including BBDO, EnergyBBDO, Mullen and Havas, and was recently at Pure Growth as managing partner, producing campaigns for Ford, Wrigley, Bud Light and Heineken. She has also played a key role in rebranding projects for The Atlantic Monthly and the Quaker Oats Company.
Madheart has signed director Sandro Suppnig for exclusive representation in the United States. The Austrian-born director, who splits his time between New York and Paris, has created campaigns for such fashion brands as Missoni, Alessandro dell'Acqua, Dsquared, Pepe Jeans, Energie and Miss Sixty. His two-minute film for Schwarzkopf and BBDO Germany, "You: A Declaration of Love," about a man's elaborate marriage proposal, has generated more than 13 million views on YouTube.
