Saatchi's Moore Smith Joins Aero Film, Joinery Signs Grossman and More
Agency creative Peter Moore Smith has joined the directorial roster at Aero Film. Smith arrives at Aero after spending the last four years as executive creative director at Saatchi & Saatchi New York, where he oversaw all creative on the General Mills account and worked on campaigns for Cheerios as well as Walmart and Duracell. More recently, he directed "The Talk" for Harlem-based youth development organization Brother/Sister Sol, which earned several industry awards including Cannes Lions and One Show Pencils.
Director Alex Grossman has signed with Joinery for representation. Grossman is a former agency creative who worked as a copywriter and creative director at Butler, Shine & Stern and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners before turning to directing. Previously with HeLo and Fancy Content, he he has helmed campaigns for the likes of Nike, Nissan, Speed Stick, Clorox, Copper Mountain and Bicycle Financial, and he won two Cannes Lions on work directed for Canal+ Spain. Recent work includes a Gatorade commercial featuring NFL brothers Peyton and Eli Manning.
Framestore has opened its first color studio in L.A., headed by Beau Leon as senior colorist. Leon will use his new role to more closely integrate color with VFX and CG, working closely with Framestore's global grading department, based in London and under the leadership of Steffan Perry. Prior to Framestore, Leon, (who began his career working on R.E.M. music video, "Losing My Religion") served at Company 3 in Los Angeles. His commercial credits include work for Chrysler, Xbox, Coke Zero, Nike, Chevrolet, Goodyear, Carl's Jr., Cadillac, Comcast, GMC, Martini & Rossi, and Verizon. Recent projects include color grading for Selena Gomez's latest video, "Same Old Love," Nike's "American Woman" ad launched during the FIFA Women's World Cup, and Audi's "Summer" spot.
Acne has signed director John Turner to its roster. His work includes branded films such as "The Search for Blue Gold" for Red Bull, a documentary-style film for fashion brand Baracuta and a branded documentary for Mercedes with AMV BBDO in conjunction with London Fashion Week. A recent interactive spot for Kia allowed viewers to get an immersive 360 degree perspective. He is a former creative director with Virgin Media.
Epoch Films has signed Michael Lawrence for directorial representation in the US. Lawrence has worked on commercials for brands such as ESPN, Nike, Google, Twitter, Dewars, Scion and New Era. He has also directed music videos for the likes of Wiseblood, Dirty Beaches and Porcelain Raft. Last year he directed the CIBC campaign "In Her Shoes" which follows a woman's battle with breast cancer by using the camera from a first person perspective.
Backyard has signed director David Tindale for U.S. commercial representation. Tindale has directed commercials for brands such as Audi, Volkswagen, JetBlue, YouTube, Target, Red Bull and ESPN, as well as original content for Burton and Forum Snowboards, including helming Burton's 2012 feature film "Thirteen."
Director and cinematographer Jonathan Yi has joined Greenpoint Pictures for commercial representation, moving from Click 3X. Yi has directed work for clients including Estee Lauder, Wells Fargo, SAP, Mattel, American Express, Nickelodeon, Monster.com, Intel and HP, and consulted for Canon USA on its 2011 Cinema EOS product line. His documentary work includes the series "East of Main Street" for HBO, and the upcoming feature documentary "Mad Tiger."
NB Content, an Australian based integrated production studio, has launched in the U.S. with offices in New York and Los Angeles, naming Mark Sitley managing director for North America. Sitley is a former agency production executive who joins NB Content after running his own branded content shop, Beyond Belief (a joint venture with Believe Media) and producing for such clients as Chevrolet, Land Rover and Lord & Taylor. Originally known as NiceBike Content, NB was established in Melbourne in 2009 and has produced ads for clients such as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (particularly Jeep), Visa, and Nike.
Framestore Pictures has signed documentary film director and artist Nicole Mackinlay Hahn to its roster. For the last few years, she has worked with U2 directing short films. Other work includes a short film, "Burkina," featuring a series of portraits of a group of Burkinabé women, and her first feature documentary, "Hardihood," which examines women in extreme sports. Her interactive installation project involving workers in the garment industry was featured in Barney's New York, the New Museum, and the London College of Fashion.
Moondog has added Snask, a Swedish design, film production and branding collective, to its roster in the U.S. Their work includes design or film projects for such brands as Target, Electrolux, Samsung, Swedish microbrewer PangPang, investment bank Nordea Markets and European wine brand Chill Out wines. Co-founders and creative directors Fredrik Öst and Magnus Berg recently spoke at the Brand New Conference in New York.
The Traveling Picture Show Company has added director Justin Shipley for representation. Shipley recently wrapped his first national commercial for Reebok, titled "Gauntlet." He has worked with brands such as Tanzania Tourism, Budweiser, and DirecTV, and his work as a documentary director/DP has earned him a nomination for an Emmy in Cinematography.
Santa Monica-based VFX, editorial and design studio Butcher has promoted staff editor Teddy Gersten to partner. Gersten has worked with clients including Nike, Chrysler, Microsoft, Porsche and Jaguar, and has earned Cannes Lions awards for his Honda work. Prior to joining Butcher, Gersten worked at several New York shops including Euro RSCG (now Havas).
