Superprime has adde Yorgos Lanthimos to its director roster for U.S. commercial representation. Lanthimos' first English language feature film "The Lobster" won the Jury Prize at the 68th Cannes Film Festival in 2015 while his most recent film,"The Favourite," premiered last month at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize. Lanthimos was born in Athens and began his career directing dance videos in collaboration with Greek choreographers, in addition to TV commercials, short films and theater plays. His work includes also 2017's "The Killing of a Sacred Deer," which won Best Screenplay in Cannes, and a short film vignette for Radiohead's "Identikit."
'The Favourite' director Yorgos Lanthimos signs with Superprime, Sharon Horgan's Merman expands
Merman, the production company founded and run by Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford, is announcing a digitally focused arm called Mermade. Mermade will specialize in the creation of non-broadcast content of all shapes and sizes, funded by and for social and streaming platforms, brands and publishers, with a particular focus on short-form episodic. The development follows the 2017 expansion of Merman into L.A. and N.Y., and the launch of its branded entertainment and advertising division in both the U.S. and U.K. Merman Global Managing Partners Jeremy Rainbird in London and Kira Carstensen in Los Angeles will run Mermade, alongside Horgan and Mountford.
Wondros had added multi-disciplinary director Jeff Yeats to its roster. Yeats, who was previously represented by Tool of North America, has directed projects for clients such as Ford, Chevrolet, Acura, NBC Universal, HP and others. His photography has appeared in publications such as "Ugly," "Revolv," and "Estero Magazine."
Director Shelley Lewis has joined filmmaking collective Bullitt for exclusive U.S. representation. Lewis, a former art director in Toronto whose work has appeared in the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes, has shot spots for Panasonic, Starbucks, Angie's List and the Paralympic Games, a music video for Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning and a short film for the Vancouver International Film Festival. Most recently, she was commissioned by the San Francisco Dance Film Festival to create the short film, "Battle."
M ssng P eces has signed L.A.-based comedy duo Nick & Charles to its roster. Former staff writer/directors at Funny or Die, they helmed projects over the last few years including the sketch "Don Cheadle as Captain Planet" and the viral "HUVR Tech" hover-board prank. They have also directed projects for Comedy Central, ABC, Adult Swim, and IFC.
Community Films has added director and photographer Jason van Bruggen to its roster for U.S. representation. Known for his visually arresting landscapes, his work includes commercial narratives and environmental and social campaigns in collaboration with actors and artists including Jane Fonda, Rachel McAdams, Feist, and professional athletes. His work has been profiled in National Geographic, Outside Magazine, PDN and Communication Arts, and by brands including Patagonia, Arcteryx and BestMade Co.
L.A.-based post production company Therapy Studios has signed editor Antonio Gómez-Pan. Born in Madrid, and currently splitting his time between his hometown, Barcelona, and now Los Angeles, Gómez-Pan's has worked with global brands like Adidas, Coca-Cola, Chanel, Unicef, Volkswagen, Nike, Ikea, Toyota, and many more. His film work has included Mi Amigo Invisible (2010), which premiered at Sundance Film Festival and Elefante (2012), which won the Best Short Film Award at the L.A. Film Festival and the Sitges Film Festival.
French animation duo Emmanuelle & Julien has joined the Blinkink roster. Some of their most recent work includes a Christmas commercial for the French Lottery. The company is also signing French director Olivier Lescot, who recently directed a music video for DJ Breakbot which has been watched over 1.4 million times on YouTube.
Durable Goods is now representing director David Falossi for commercials in the U.S. Falossi has worked with clients such as Samsung, Four Seasons, Pacifico Beer, President, Stussy, Casamigos tequila and Caliche rum. He recently helmed a campaign for Moe's Southwest Grill with Durable that is currently airing.
Director Delaney Bishop and producer Isabel Reyes are opening Bishop Takes Queen, a creative production company based in Los Angeles. Its first work includes Saban Brands' "Robyn Hoodie," a new series starring world-class extreme martial artist Jesse Jane McParland, and "Trinidad James Vignettes," a series of 20 comedic and hip hop shorts for Warner Brothers' digital network, Stage 13.
Compulsory has signed Californian director Joe Nankin for music, commercials and film in the U.K. The first project to be produced by Compulsory for the director is "Make it Out Alive'," a music video by British singer-songwriter and record-producer NAO. Nankin's other work includes working with Converse and UNDFTD on a brand partnership that saw his work playing at the Milano Film Festival.
Framestore has promoted Anthony Gibbs to creative director, from his previous position of design director. Gibbs first joined Framestore in 2007 in London, relocating to the creative studio's Los Angeles office in 2016 to help expand its design presence. With experience in compositing, 3D, interactive work, camera, and animation, his recent work has included youth-focused anti-tobacco campaign "Fresh Empire."
Senior colorist Fred Keller is moving from Chicago to New York to build the color department at production and digital studio Click 3X. Keller spent a dozen years as a senior colorist at Filmworkers Club in Chicago. He started his career in New York at Manhattan Transfer, which later became Company 3. His current commercials reel includes spots for such brands as McDonald's, State Farm, Coors, Walmart, Alfa Romeo, Capital One, Skittles and many others.
