Director Jason Zada is joining Fancy for U.S. representation except for digital and experiential, and Unit9 for digital and experiential in the U.S., and for all U.K. representation. Zada, director of the 2016 feature film "The Forest" and the Emmy Award-winning interactive experience "Take This Lollipop," has previously been signed to Los York, Prettybird and before that Tool. He has directed work for agencies such as as Wieden & Kennedy, CP&B, Sid Lee, Leo Burnett, Saatchi & Saatchi, RPA, Y&R, Draftfcb, Kaplan Thaler and Grey on a variety of digital and broadcast projects. Before becoming a director, Zada started the digital advertising agency Evolution Bureau. He was named in AdAge's Creativity 50 in 2012.
Ruffian is signing writer and director Evan Silver for commercial representation. Silver has written and directed content for ad agencies, movie studios, TV networks and record labels. His clients include Nike, Audi, XBox, Comedy Central, Budweiser, Honda, Microsoft, ESPN, and HBO. His campaign "White Squad" for MTV via agency Party, NY, earned a One Show Award and last year he collected a Cannes Lion for a Burger King campaign featuring Snoop Dogg. Earlier in his career, he worked on MTV's NY on-air promos, where he created hundreds of ads and short videos including the 2014 MTV Movie Awards.
Stink Films is adding director Will Mayer to its roster for global representation. His work includes a recent collaboration with Wieden & Kennedy Portland for Samsung that tells the story of Russell Westbrook and the community that drove him to become the NBA's Most Valuable Player this year. He has also created work for clients including Vans, Google, Gatorade, Samsung, Skoda, Under Armour, and more. He was formerly represented by B-Reel. He is currently in post production on his first feature-length project, a documentary on Olympic snowboarder Shaun White that will be released this winter. The film is co-written by Mayer and Stink director Eliot Rausch.
Stink is also set to represent filmmaking collective Traktor outside the U.S. and U.K., where they are repped by Rattling Stick. Their recent work includes a spot for Nissan Titan, and they have directed spots for MTV, Levi's, Nescafe, Tide, Verizon, Nike and Heineken, as well as music videos for Basement Jaxx, The Prodigy and Madonna.
Somesuch is joining forces with U.S.-based production company Serial Pictures, led by founding partner and Executive Producer Violaine Etienne, to represent Serial directors Bruce St Clair, Christian Larson, Fabien Baron, John Hillcoat, José Padilha, Paolo Sorrentino and Paul Greengrass for commercials and music videos in the U.K. and Amsterdam. Both companies are partners with Anonymous Content.
Los Angeles and Mexico City-based branded entertainment production company Gloria Content is signing Brazilian-American director Gandja Monteiro for U.S. commercial and branded entertainment representation. Monteiro's directorial expertise spans commercials, music videos, narrative films and branded entertainment for the likes of Nike, Coca-Cola, AT&T, Chevrolet, Smirnoff and Mastercard. Most recently, Monteiro was accepted into the American Film Institute (AFI) Directing Workshop for Women and is currently working on a female-led sci-fi short that will debut at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles.
New York City-based tabletop production company Canteen is adding director Greg Jenkins to its roster. A former agency producer and in-house director, his love of food led him to delve into the world of recipe videos, then he went on to direct web content and TV spots for General Mills. He has shot for a range of food brands, including Kraft, Smirnoff, Nestle, Procter & Gamble and Unilever.
New York-based production company Residency Content is adding Belgian director Sebastien Petretti for his first U.S. commercial representation. Petretti has helmed spots for brands including Samsung, Galaxy, Durex and Kyriad Hotels, and his first work with Residency includes a spot for Dixie To Go out of Droga5. His short films "Family for Sale" (2015), "Pink Velvet Valley" (2016) and "State of Emergency Motherf*cker" (2017) were recognized at film festivals including the Palm Springs Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. Most recently, he finished a new project called "Make Aliens Dance."
Production company Unheard/Of is signing Chris Volckmann and Aaron Brown to its directorial roster. Volckmann has created content for such brands as Adidas, Groupon, Nike, Oculus, Chevy, and Amazon. Prior to that, he worked as a producer and executive producer at design studios including Superfad and We Are Royale. Brown has directed commercial work for such clients as Levi's, Converse, Sony and Vice, and music video work for Arctic Monkeys, Girls, Trash Talk and King Krule.
Cutters Studios Detroit is promoting Justin Grosjean to editor, from assistant editor. He was worked on projects for clients such as GTB (for clients Ford, Lincoln, Warriors in Pink), Commonwealth (for Chevrolet), and Driven Communications (for Fender and ELS). In 2016 he spent time at Cutters Tokyo, co-editing a spot with Aika Miyake for Love Liner which aired nationally in Japan.
