Mollie Spilman is as mobile as the company she works for. "During the week, I'm constantly on the move," she said. Her typical week includes a trip to New York, Paris, Germany, Singapore, Los Angeles or some combination of the five. But no matter how much she travels, she always makes it home to Baltimore on weekends to be with her two children.
Before joining the mobile-ad network, Ms. Spilman was Yahoo's CMO. She left Yahoo last summer after being demoted by then-new CEO Marissa Mayer. (Ms. Mayer described the move as "layering," Ms. Spilman said.)
Millennial Media readily gave Ms. Spilman her old title back last October. While she loves working for Millennial, she has mixed feelings about being recognized as a female C-level executive. "I feel like there's so much talk about Sheryl's [Sandberg] book and the stuff Marissa has done," Ms. Spilman said. "It's a good and a bad thing to draw so much to women in the workforce. It's good to point out successful females. On the other hand, you don't want to be singled out as a special case, as if there should be some different threshold for women."
