Imperial Woodpecker brought visual delight and wit to a generous helping of Apple work this year. Sam Brown directed one of 2017's most stunning spots, "Stroll," which captured freestyle dancer Lil' Buck defying gravity as he dances through the streets--and along the walls--of Mexico City, as his AirPods stay firmly in place. His moves continued on the sweet holiday spot "Sway," in which a pair of strangers, also wearing AirPods, engage in a impromptu, balletic rendezvous on snowy winter streets.
Mark Zibert, who delivered more powerful spots for Canada's SickKids Foundation (produced out of Skin and Bones), shot a breathtaking Apple Watch ad featuring a surfer tackling dramatic waves--while tending to goings-on at home.
Simon McQuoid delivered more high-octane humor to Activision with a spot featuring a group of nerd friends who reunite, "Oceans Eleven"-style, to play "Call of Duty WWII."
Commercials vet and company co-founder Stacy Wall added to his Nike oeuvre, revisiting puppets for a tribute to Kobe Bryant and directing a multi-film campaign chronicling Kevin Hart's escape to the desert. His sports and celebrity expertise carried over to Adidas, on the all-star "Calling All Creators" ad.
