O Positive’s directors continued to make us laugh, even in a tumultuous year where humor was sometimes hard to find. And they did it with class, craft and buzzworthy production.
O Positive delivered buzzworthy humor in a tumultuous year
David Shane continues to be one of the industry's most sought-after comedy directors, and last year in particular saw his work match impeccable craft with comedic skill. Shane scored an Emmy nomination for Apple’s “Detectives,” an ad from late 2021 that cleverly played with the iPhone 13's camera focus to match the script.
As well as work for Paramount+ and Heineken’s New Island’s Edge, among Shane's other highlights was Uncommon's launch campaign for ITV’s streaming service ITVX. It featured top acting talent Matthew MacFadyen, John Boyega and Helena Bonham Carter being put through their paces by a super-young director and producer.
Jim Jenkins reunited with Jason Bateman for Hyundai’s “History of Evolution,” which featured Bateman in hilarious skits throughout eras in time. His deft comedic touch was also evident in spots such as Uber’s “The Will” and HP’s “Work Happy,” which gleefully mocked old-fashioned business clichés.
Other highlights included Jess Coulter’s buzzworthy AT&T Super Bowl ad featuring Demi Moore and Mila Kunis, while new signing Amber Schaefer skillfully delivered the twist in P&G deodorant brand Native’s “The Job,” a spot in its “Naughty & Nice” holiday campaign.
