O Positive directors delivered non-stop laughs all year long
There wasn’t much to laugh about in 2020, but O Positive managed to prove its comedic reputation throughout the pandemic—even finding humor in adversity. David Shane’s “Cardboard Fan” ad for Bud Light, for example, redefined COVID-era spots with its hilarious, affecting take on one New York Giants’ fan’s epic quest for a beer, at a time when cardboard fans were replacing real ones in stadiums.
And in “Serenade,” Shane gave us an uplifting anthem with fans celebrating the return of Major League Baseball from the comfort of their own homes. Jess Coulter’s “First Visitors” for Snickers and BBDO New York also found hilarity in quarantine, with a couple trying to readjust to meeting in real life—and wearing pants again.
Before COVID hit, O Positive had produced two of the highlights of the 2020 Super Bowl—Jim Jenkins’ Emmy-nominated “Groundhog Day” with Bill Murray for Jeep and David Shane’s “Comfortable” with Jason Momoa for Rocket Mortgage.
Both were with agency Highdive and rated highly on USA Today’s Ad Meter, with Jeep taking the top spot and Rocket scoring at No. 5.
Jenkins also directed another celebrity-filled Super Bowl ad, Bud Light Seltzer’s “#PostyStore,” part of a launch campaign for the brand featuring Post Malone. Brian Billow took the helm on more Geico gut-busters, including one featuring ‘80s metal band Ratt.
