Jill Soloway is a veteran TV writer, having worked on "Six Feet Under," "Steve Harvey" and "Grey's Anatomy," among others. But it's "Transparent" that's propelled her into the category of superstar show runner.
Created by Ms. Soloway and streaming on Amazon, the show tells the witty and sometimes depressing tale of a dysfunctional family as it grapples with the discovery that the father, played by Jeffrey Tambor, is transgender. The show won a number of awards for its first season, including a Golden Globe for Best Series, Musical or Comedy, the first from a streaming service to do so, and Mr. Tambor won a Golden Globe for Best Actor, as well as an Emmy.
It recently debuted its second season, and Amazon Studios in June renewed the show for a third season, set to debut sometime in 2016.
