We coasted through a very enjoyable past week of advertising, with the best creative ideas being lighthearted and fun. We had gag products, parody campaigns, an amusing inanimate spokescharacter and more. And topping the list was one of the most hilariously over-the-top spots we’ve seen in a while—offering a laugh-out-loud take on the generation gap. Below, check out the Top 5 campaigns of the week.
The top 5 creative campaigns you need to know about right now
5. Sweethearts: Situationships
Agency: Tombras
Tombras has been on a roll lately, thanks to ideas like this—taking blurry, misprinted Sweethearts candies, which would typically be considered rejects, and packaging them up as a salute to confusing relationships. A fresh, fun, unexpected way of creating an opportunity where it seemed there was only a problem.
4. Away: Yes, Chef
Agency: In-house
The Jeremy Allen White campaign for Calvin Klein has been a true cultural juggernaut, and this response from luggage company Away was the best we’ve seen in drafting off that success. The washboard abs on Away’s suitcases gave the brand a way in, and the execution of the photos was spot-on. Real-time social marketing at its best.
3. Tito’s: With Tito’s
Agency: Arts & Letters Creative Co.
These four spots for Tito’s vodka ooze charm and style. Rather than engage a celebrity spokesperson, Arts & Letters dreamed up the idea of a spokescart—a drinks cart that brings Tito’s to everyday situations, making them a little better. Luisa Kracht’s direction is irresistible, and the whole campaign captures Tito’s brand spirit perfectly.
2. Netflix Spain: Who's Watching?
Production Company: David Madrid
A great example of a product feature leading to an inspired creative concept. David Madrid took the “Who’s watching?” prompt from the Netflix launch screen and turned it into a philosophical inquiry. Who are you, really? And how do your viewing choices reflect that? Juan Cabral brings the answers to life is his typically brilliant style. One of the best Netflix brand spots we’ve seen in ages.
1. Meat and Livestock Australia: Generation Gap
Agency: The Monkeys
Blockbuster commercials don’t get much better than this hilarious three-minute showdown between the generations to promote Australian lamb. The broad comedy is perfectly executed, the casting is just right, and the ridiculous visuals round out the fantastic absurdity of the piece. Great work by The Monkeys, and another reminder that not only isn’t advertising comedy dead—in a given week, it can be as entertaining as anything in culture.
