Cannes Winners

With hard economic times hovering over the U.S. and Europe, last week's International Advertising Festival in Cannes was a silver lining for advertisers worldwide. The festival, celebrating its 50th year, pushed envelopes by awarding Grand Prix and Gold Lion awards to daring campaigns from shops like Hooper Galton, U.K., and TBWA, Paris. Grand prix: Sony Playstation's "Rebirth" stole the show and some stomachs with ads for its console and games by TBWA, Paris.

Gold lion: Discovery Channel's brazenly honest "Age of Terror" ad for its satellite TV channel is from Hooper Galton, U.K.

Outdoor winners

Grand prix: Kiwicare's "Fly" and "Mosquito" ads from Grey Worldwide, New Zealand, for No Bugs Insect Spray had Cannes buzzing.

Gold lion: Levi's rocked out with these "Man" and "Girl" ads from Neogama BBH, Brazil. Brazil took home the most Lions of any country: 16.
