The importance of mental health came to the forefront last year following the sudden death of OddCommon Co-Founder Drew Dahlman. One employee said that despite the uncertainty and loss, OddCommon provided its staffers with support, including time, space and access to counseling.
“All five of us who were there at the time showed up for each other in ways that we had never needed to before—shouldering major decisions while gently keeping each other encouraged,” one staffer wrote. “The resilience and strength everyone showed in the face of the loss of a dear friend really fortified us, especially in our vision for the workplace values we're striving to cultivate.”
OddCommon's programs, such as a flexible work policy that lets employees choose a home or office environment; monthly home flower deliveries; tuition reimbursement; and a tattoo allowance have helped with recruitment. Last year, OddCommon said it shared 14.5% of its profits with employees.
