A 27-year-old at Hearst Magazines is at the forefront of expanding a 157-year-old title.

Jamie Friedman, sales development manager at Town & Country, is also advertising manager for Town & Country Travel, debuting in October. That seems like a lot of responsibility. "She started taking such initiative on the launch that it went way beyond sales," says Jim Taylor, VP-publisher at Town & Country and its new sibling.

In the meantime, the venerable Town & Country has hardly been overlooked. Ad pages are up 4.75% for the first half vs. a year ago, while the magazine industry overall is up 1.8%, according to Publishers Information Bureau.

As sales development manager, a new title that Ms. Friedman won a year ago, she says that she's been able to "foster the growth of untapped categories of advertising that aren't endemic to Town & Country." Those categories include liquor (such as Absolut), technology (including Sharp) and financial services (including Merrill Lynch).
