[London] CNN is launching a global ad campaign this month highlighting the network's role in providing "essential global intelligence" to viewers. Ads are based on 12 multiple-choice questions developed with CNN journalists on European and Asian news. "CNN's brand awareness is already extremely strong, so we wanted to concentrate on developing an understanding of the range of international news we offer," said Mark Haviland, CNN's director-marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Questions cover business ("Arrange these currencies in order of strength"), politics ("Who has the most influential face in European politics?") and sports ("Which sport is China planning to dominate by 2015?"). In addition to print ads in European consumer and trade magazines and a month-long run on London's Heathrow Express train, CNN has created a Web site at cnn.com/egi that details the stories behind the questions in the ads. The campaign was created by independent Iris, London, a CNN roster shop.
