Microsoft Nails Deals With Media Giants

Microsoft struck deals with NBC Universal, Walt Disney, MGM Studios and CBS’s Showtime to give the technology company access to their content for distribution on its Xbox Live and MSN online services, the Wall Street Journal reports (subscription required). Bill Gates announced the deals to kick off the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas. The alliances spell competition for Apple’s iTunes download store and rival technology companies like Adobe Systems, which Microsoft is taking on with new technologies like its Silverlight video services.
