Filmed in black and white, the spot shows them brandishing words like "Don't wear short skirts," "Were you drunk?" and "Why were you alone with him?" held up by the women, contrasted with the boys holding up signs such as "Be a man" and "Boy will be boys."
While none of the statements is stuff that will surprise us, viewing them together like this is a powerful reminder of the way sexual assault has traditionally been discussed, even in so-called enlightened times.
The spot urges viewers to "change the conversation" around this issue, and to sign a pledge at Itsonus.org, All the tweens, teens and college students in the spot are from SheKnows Media's Hatch program, which launched in 2014 aiming to give teens and tweens the skills to become accountable digital citizens, and which tackles media literacy and social issues.
