KLM Transformed This Airplane Into an Apartment for One Night
Invited Families to Spend the Night to Promote Partnership With Airbnb
Editor's Pick
To promote a new linkup with Airbnb, KLM created a whole apartment on a plane, and invited people to "live" in it for a night.
The project began with a competition inviting people to experience an airplane decked out with a home cinema, terrace with airport view and eight bathrooms. Of the 10,000 people who entered, three were chosen and, as this video shows, spent the night at Amsterdam's Schipol airport. On the project website, you can explore the apartment room by room and watch a "Making Of" video showing how it was done.
The stunt promotes the fact that KLM is now listing Airbnb properties under the "destinations" section of its website. It rounds off a spectacularly creative year for KLM and agency DDB & Tribal Amsterdam, which has included creating personalized seat covers for passengers, filming a (fake) sniffer dog reuniting people with lost items, and setting up a real-time newsroom for Twitter queries.
It's also the latest in marketer Airbnb's interesting hookups. Earlier this year, in a campaign via The Monkeys, it partnered with Ikea in Australia to promote lodging in the retailer's showrooms.
