Aldi's Kevin the Carrot is Home Alone in retailer's full-length holiday ad
World Cup-themed teaser meant the character was left behind, just like his movie namesake

Aldi's full length holiday U.K. ad is out, and this year the discount retailer is spoofing "Home Alone" as its long-running character Kevin the Carrot, like his namesake in the movie, gets left behind from a family vacation.
The brand's teaser spot, which broke last weekend, showed how Kevin missed his "Peasyjet" flight to Paris when he got caught up in a World Cup-themed kickabout with some amusingly-named soccer star vegetables at the airport. The clip ended with Kevin's wife and kids on the plane, with his wife realizing he was missing and screaming out "Kevin!" -- a clue to the theme of the full length ad. (The "Kevin" moment is also the theme of a TikTok challenge from the brand, which is asking people to recreate the scream on the platform).
The full spot reveals that Kevin had to miss the family trip, so is left home by himself, watching the soccer on a phone, for the holidays. Just like in the movie, he has to deal with an intruder and has to set various traps, all involving Christmas foods, before escaping out of the window to become (in a somewhat risque moment) a snowman's "nose." We'll leave you to guess the identity of the Christmas intruder.
As with several other brands this year, there's also a charity element to this year's campaign; the spot opens with a scene in which Kevin's kids give their pocket money to the food poverty charity Neighbourly at the airport.
Once again, the ad was created by McCann UK with animation from Pysop directors Todd Mueller & Kylie Matulick.
“Christmas celebrates the joy of being with loved ones and this year more than ever we all need a bit of light entertainment as we celebrate the season together," said Adam Zavalis, marketing director at Aldi U.K., in a statement. “And it wouldn’t be the festive season without Kevin the Carrot on our TV screens, and this year’s Yuletide performance is sure to get the nation shouting ‘KEVIN!’ as we welcome him back for the seventh year.”
