As the U.S. prepares to watch the Winter Olympics, Ancestry.com's latest spot once again highlights America's racially diverse make-up with a spot that focuses on hockey players.
The ad by Droga5, reveals the DNAresults of former "All-American"hockey players including Mike Eruzione, Rob McClanahan, Dave Christian, John Harrington and Buzz Schneider. Ancestry's DNA testing found they had Italian, Middle Eastern, Southern Asian and Russian ancestry. The message is that "America's greatness truly comes from everywhere." Jones + Tino at Stink directed the film.
The work follows Ancestry's previous campaigns in the U.S., such as its Fourth of July spot showing the ethnically diverse descendants of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, and in the U.K., where a recent spot by Droga5's London office revealed that despite the Brexit vote, British people are closely connected to Europe, with 60 percent of their DNA European.
Vineet Mehra, executive vice president and CMO, Ancestry, says in a statement: "With so much attention currently on American pride and athleticism, we feel this is the perfect opportunity to highlight the importance of unity, diversity and inclusivity, and to inspire people to look at America's--and their own-- "greatness" in new ways."
