Coldplay's surreal new video for the band's latest single "Up&Up" is a continuous play on perspective that presents surreal images like a volcano erupting with popcorn, racecars driving around Saturn, a baby flying on the wing of a plane and synchronized swimmers in teacups.
The video, which was viewed over three million times on its first day of release, was co-directed by Prettybird's Vania Heymann (a former Creativity 50 honoree whose previous work includes the amazing interactive video for Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone) and his close friend, fellow Israeli director Gal Muggia.
While its overall tone is quirky, dreamlike and playful, it also makes some serious political points, with imagery including boats overcrowded with people, a beach with a huge concrete wall blocking the sea and children in a war-torn landscape.
Heymann and Muggia commented in a statement that they were "inspired by many collage artists, past and present. Hopefully the images do the rest of the talking."
