Real Piggies Star in Rovio's Cinematic Trailer for Angry Birds 2
W&K Campaign Also Includes 'Smug Pigs of Instagram' Account
Editor's Pick
To promote the launch of Angry Birds 2, Rovio has released a cinematic trailer featuring real-life versions of the birds' enemies: the piggies.
In contrast to Rovio's usual animated trailers for the game, this one mingles live action and VFX. Created by Wieden & Kennedy London, it features the pigs sunning themselves and swimming in aquamarine waters on "Piggy Island" -- as the birds prepare to attack. We don't see the birds themselves -- only a bird's eye view from the infamous slingshot.
Directed by François Rousselet through Riff Raff, the film was actually shot on "Pig Island," or Big Major Cay, in the Bahamas, which is known for its unique group of swimming wild pigs. (The swimming pigs are the ones featured in the film, and Creativity hears that a creative at W&K even got to swim with them).
To accompany the film, people can follow a "Smug pigs of Instagram" account (a play on "Rich Kids of Instagram") to see pictures of the pigs living the good life on Piggy Island. Fans of the game will love it.
