There might still be some doubt over whether Uber will continue to operate in London--but just for today, you can pay for a taxi a different way. Chiquita Bananas is running a promotion in the city letting people pay for a taxi with a banana--just as long as it's one of theirs.

Travelers who flag down a Chiquita Bananas-branded yellow cab on the 16th of July can ride free of charge, as long as they present a Chiquita banana. The yellow taxis are stationed around Covent Garden Piazza, on Henrietta and Southampton Street and Holborn tube station today. Once a banana payment has been received, the passenger will be able to take a free ride to anywhere in Tranport for London zones 1 and 2.

The banana payment day is part of a seven-week campaign by WPP PR agency Clarion driving awareness of Chiquita. It will include giving black cabs and London buses "We Are Bananas'" wrap-around makeovers, and will be supported by digital and social activity across the brand's channels.
