Bestselling British author William Boyd ("Any Human Heart," "Waiting for Sunrise") has teamed up with Land Rover to launch an interactive story, "The Vanishing Game," that weaves a narrative involving its brand into one of the author's trademark tales of danger and intrigue.
Hosted on Tumblr, the eight-chapter story is accompanied by atmospheric visuals, including photography and animation, as well as voice-over and music. The narrative concerns an out-of-work British actor who is offered the opportunity to earn 1,000 British Pounds in 24 hours for delivering a package from London to a small town in Scotland. He sets out on the trek in a Land Rover Defender -- and discovers that he has become embroiled in a scheme far more dangerous than he had anticipated.
Readers can interact with the narrative -- for example, scrolling over highlighted passages to see additional images, videos and other media supplied by Land Rover. In a crowdsourcing touch, Land Rover also curated content sent in by owners of its cars using the Twitter hashtag #WellStoried. The story is also available in ebook format via Amazon and Apple iBook.
