Spot via Translation to Debut During NBA Games on Martin Luther King Day
Jan 16, 2015
As a tribute to Martin Luther King Day and Black History Month, NBA's advertising agency Translation has created a moving commercial for the 2014-2015 season that celebrates how far the league has come in the past 60 years. The "Breaking Barriers" video features audio of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have A Dream" speech paired with black & white clips of monumental "firsts" throughout the NBA's history -- the signing of the league's first African-American player Chuck Cooper, its first black coach, NBA player Bill Russell, its first female referee Violet Palmer and more recently, its first openly gay player Jason Collins. The creation of the ad marks only the third time that the Estate of Martin Luther King, Jr. has granted outside entity rights to the famous speech.
