Comedy big guns Jeffrey Tambor, Jennifer Coolidge, Fred Willard and John Michael Higgins assemble as bumbling cable execs in the latest humorous campaign for DirecTV, created out of Grey New York and directed by Hungry Man's Bryan Buckley.
Following the headlines of the company's acquisition by AT&T, the broadcast provider throws a dig at another big merger--that between two cable giants. Cable Corp Inc. and Cable World have decided to join forces (even though one of them stinks, literally) in an effort to take on DirecTV, which, according to Mr. Tambor, is "better at the TV thing." A pair of spots introduces the new team, and the outrageous ideas they come up with post-merger.
The campaign resurrects the brand's "Empty Cable Suit" effort from 2008 via Deutsch L.A., which also featured Mr. Higgins and some of the other cast members. The first ad "Merger" will begin airing today to be followed by "Big Ideas" later this month.
