Buildup!

Editor's Pick

Though mostly scrawled in Japanese, visitors can easily entertain themselves with this site that promotes the Japan Federation of Construction Contractors.

With an intro that features hard-hat laborers drilling and sledge-hammering in rhythms that recall Stomp or even old industrial acts like Einsturzende Neubauten, visitors can click through and create their own musical opus. By clicking on the Buildup Music section, users are presented with a bare, layered building structure.

A series of shelves on the left include several different cinder blocks that represent a variety of industrial sounds, phrases and drum loops that you can click and drag onto the skeletal building to create your own soundscape. Once done, click the Buildup icon to watch your building form and grow. After all is said and done, you can name and add it to the animated metropolis that's featured on the main page.
