A new U.K. e-commerce brand, The C-List, curates beauty products specifically for people with cancer, who are often advised to switch to gentler beauty products to avoid side-effects.
The C-List, which launched last week on World Cancer Day (Feb. 4) was founded by TV producer and cancer campaigner Helen Addis, who when, faced with her own cancer diagnosis, struggled to find anywhere to go for beauty advice. Addis found that clearly identified "cancer-kind" products are an overlooked category by most mainstream brands and retailers.
The site features over 200 products, all reviewed and tested, from brands that include Bare Minerals, LaRoche-Posay, Weleda and Elemis. All the models featured on the site have been through cancer treatment, and their stories are shared on the site, which also features beauty tips and opportunities to share consumers' own stories.
Addis worked with creative studio Honest, which provided business mentoring and planning, service design, brand strategy and design, from concept to virtual shop front. Honest CEO and founder Julia Leckey has also undergone cancer treatment, and says: “As someone who has gone through cancer treatment myself, I identified immediately with the need to provide a welcoming space for people to be able to choose products that are right for them and swap ideas but to also help them stay connected to the person they are outside of their diagnosis.”
