McCann's Sean Bryan Wants to Judge the Radio Mercury Awards in the Dark
There's Nothing to See in Funny Call for Entries Video
Editor's Pick
Sean Bryan, co-chief creative officer of McCann New York and chief judge of this year's Radio Mercury Awards, appears in the show's call for entries video. Except, you can't see him.
The spot, by McCann, pictures Bryan sitting in the dark on a conference call to some of the other judges, explaining that as radio ads have nothing to "show," the judges should sit in a dark room. It's a logical thought process that doesn't go down all that well with his fellow judges. "For conceptual, possibly legal reasons, I just don't think that's a very good idea for the judges," says TBWA Chiat Day's Chris Beresford-Hill--while Y&R's Leslie Sim seems more than keen to hang up. The film ends with the line "Nothing to see here."
We've seen some good call for entries videos this year -- including AICP's film featuring Pete Favat channeling Andy Warhol and Susan Credle dressed as Frida Kahlo. Perhaps there should be an award show for the awards videos?
