Pete Davidson, Trae Young, DJ Steve Aoki and streamer TimTheTatmans all make playful cameo appearances in Call of Duty's new campaign for Modern Warfare II.
The push from 72andSunny L.A. for the latest Activision game launch kicks off with a dramatic teaser film featuring the iconic Task Force 141 characters from the Modern Warfare series. Directed by MJZ's Craig Gillespie ("I Tonya," Hulu's "Pam and Tommy"), the one-take film slowly reveals each team member, riding in the back of a truck on the way to a battle. The ratcheting tension and sound design help to build suspense until the end, when we reveal a new member of Task Force 141, Alejandro, who then gives the command, throws open the door and leads the crew into their mission.
The campaign launched on Game 1 of the NBA Finals and was followed immediately by individual social films that went live on organic celebrity social channels. Adding a playful element to the initial film, each showcases a different celebrity in the back of the truck with Task Force 141.
The idea is that none of them are properly prepared for battle. Davidson, for example, asks the team if they "packed any good snacks" because his mom filled his whole backpack with treats, and he's not sharing. NBA star Young is more interested in showing off with his ball, Aoki wants to know what they're listening to and TimTheTatman also failed to take the pre-battle preparation as seriously as the Task Force.
“Teamwork is at the core of the Call of Duty experience, so what better way to tease the reveal of Modern Warfare II than to bring to life our ultimate team: Task Force 141," said Tyler Bahl, vice president and head of marketing at Activision, in a statement. "We hope all our players, new and old, will enjoy this epic and fun campaign.”
