Idea Stops the Bites Before They Starts

Telecom companies can be of great assistance when it comes to 911 calls. But Australian provider Optus proved to be more proactive in saving lives when it came to preventing the sort of crisis that's perhaps more common down under: shark attacks. Along with agency M&C Saatchi Sydney, Optus devised a "clever buoy" that, when placed in the water, used sonar to recognize the presence of sharks. Once a predator is detected, the buoy sends signals via the Optus network to warn lifeguards of approaching danger, who in turn can then caution and call swimmers out of the water.
