Coca-Cola has a history of releasing special edition bottles to commemorate certain events. Now, the beverage brand will debut commemorative mini-bottles for the soccer World Cup, set to be played in Brazil this summer. 18 numbered models are decorated with flags of former World Cup host companies, including Argentina, France, Italy, Germany, Mexico, Japan, as well as upcoming host nations Brazil, Russia and Qatar. The bottles will be presented in special minicases and will launch on January 15, along with an accompanying promo campaign featuring print and broadcast, out of J. Walter Thompson.
On top of the fun design, the bottles are also interactive. Through Facebook or iPhone and Android apps, fans can create special messages and avatars that can be delivered to any minibottle owner. The bottles serve as augmented reality markers that can activate the animations when they're held up to a camera smartphone.
The bottles follow the brand's release of special bottles featuring the Brazilian flag, created to support that country during the FIFA Confederations Cup.
