South America's biggest brewery, Ambev, teamed up with Sao Paolo water utility company Sabesp to form Cyan Bank, (known locally as Banco Cyan), an online model for water conservation.
'Customers' of Cyan Bank can open accounts whereby if they save water, they earn points towards discounts at online stores in Brazil. A monthly goal is set based on their water consumption history, verified by the water company, and the more they meet or beat that goal, the more currency they earn. Over 26 million people opened accounts with Banco Cyan, which launched on World Water Day, March 22nd, and Ambev hopes to expand the project to other water companies throughout Brazil.
