Bait-and-Switch Alert: 'Deadpool' Is Not Rom-Com, Despite These Ads
Ryan Reynolds' Smart-Mouthed Character Pulls Another Fun Prank for Film

Editor's Pick
"Deadpool" hits theaters on Feb. 12 in the U.S., but from the looks of these wry ads spinning it as a romantic comedy, you wouldn't guess that the film is the latest hyperviolent superhero-themed thriller out of the Marvel/X-Men universe.
The fluffy positioning is something of a cruel lttle joke on unsuspecting moviegoers who may be looking for a perfect Valentine's Day flick.
Before buying tickets, though, hopefully they'll do a little research and learn that the titular character, played by Ryan Reynolds, is a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary who's subjected to "a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers." As one of the taglines for the movie puts it: "With great power comes great irresponsibility." And, apparently, a very dark sense of humor -- which is on full display in the most recent "Deadpool" trailer.
This is just the latest in 20th Century Fox's witty promotions for the film. Previously, it released this smart-ass trailer for the Deadpool trailer. Overall, the campaign's positioning feels like a brilliant extension of the Deadpool character himself, known for his killer sense of humor.
