French TV channel France5 is promoting an upcoming documentary that highlights a shocking truth about adoption in the U.S.in this haunting and powerful trailer.
"Disposable Kids" uncovers how a process called "rehoming" can mean that people can adopt child, then publish an ad online to find a different family for that child if they don't satisfy expectations. While not legally recognized, according to the documentary this happens to 25,000 American kids every year.
In the film, a little boy walks up to a large family home, where the door is opened by another child, more preppily dressed and who seems faintly hostile. As the boy shows him around the house, pointing out the pool table, TV and candy jar, he gradually seems less hostile and more sad, while the new boy looks around him in wonder. Eventually he takes him into his bedroom, where the new boy takes off his jacket and lays it on the bed. The denouement is that it's the first child who's leaving the house, walking out the front door and down the drive, as a caption on-screen explains how when one child disappoints his adoptive parents, he can be replaced by another.
Publicis Conseil created the trailer, and it was directed by Fabrice Gobert and Bertrand Degove at Wanda.
