Billed as "the ultimate civic engagement tool," the DIY Democracy app out of the Prometheus Institute puts citizens in touch government on all levels: federal, state and local. Users can email senators, district reps and other local leaders, see where government money is being spent, learn about their rights as citizens and even report and send documentation of neighborhood problems or corrupt practices they observe. So far, the app only serves California residents.
