Through New Year's, we'll be counting down the best work of the year in TV/Film/Branded Content, Print/Outdoor/Design and Interactive/Integrated (IX) as our picks of the day.
At #9 in our Interactive/Integrated category is Goodby Silverstein's interactive experience for the The Dalà Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. A great example of how new technologies are allowing people's experience of great artworks to be enhanced with extra elements.
Fans of Salvador Dalà can now immerse themselves in a dreamlike world based on his surreal landscapes thanks to a new virtual reality experience at The Dalà Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida.
As part of the exhibition "Disney and DalÃ: Architects of the Imagination," opening on January 23, agency Goodby Silverstein & Partners has created the Dreams of Dalà experience. It aims to take viewers inside the mind of Dalà and brings to life the landscape in one of his earlier paintings, "Archeological Reminiscence of Millet's 'Angelus' " (1935).
Visitors wear a VR headset and can move around inside the painting, exploring elements in the artwork and looking beyond the areas depicted on the canvas. They can listen to an interpretation of the artist's thoughts, inspect some of his depictions of elephants, birds and ants, and explore some of his recurring motifs.
The experience will be on display until June 12, and for those that can't make it to Florida, can be experienced online for those with VR viewers at www.dreamsofdali.org.
GS&P created some beautiful posters for the experience, as well as this trailer using the 1988 song "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies, performed by pianist Maxence Cyrin on his 2010 album "Novo Piano."
